WASTE POLICY

Registered under the waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011, Registration No: CBDL43071

Any substance or object that we discard, intend to discard, or are required to discard is waste and as such is subject to a number of regulatory requirements. The term ‘discard’ has a special meaning. Even if material is sent for recycling or undergoes treatment in house, it can still be waste. For further information on the law governing waste management, use the link in the ‘See Also’ box.

Solid Waste Mandatory Requirements

The Duty of Care requires that we ensure all waste is handled, recovered or disposed of responsibly, that it is only handled, recovered or disposed of by individuals or businesses that are authorized to do so, and that a record is kept of all wastes received or transferred through a system of signed Waste Transfer Notes.
If we work as a Sub Contractor and the Main Contractor arranges for the recovery or disposal of waste that we produce, we are still responsible for those wastes under the Duty of Care.
If we transport our own waste which is either building or demolition waste we will need to be registered as a waste carrier with the Environmental Regulator (Galaxy Electrical)
Be aware that materials requiring recycling such as copper cable, either on our premises or elsewhere are likely to be waste and will be subject to the waste management regime and the Duty of Care. If in any doubt, seek advice from the Environmental Regulator.
If the material that we are handling has hazardous properties, it may need to be dealt with as 'Special Waste.' For further information on what we must do when handling Special Waste, use the links listed under 'See Also'.
If we intend to discard containers, an assessment must be made as to whether they are Special Waste. Containers may be Special Waste if they contain residues of hazardous or dangerous substances/materials. If the residue is 'Special', then the whole container is Special Waste.
Do not burn cable or cable drums on site. Find another route for disposal

We doing good practice
Before allowing any waste hauler or contractor to remove a waste material from our site, ask where the material will be taken and ask for a copy of the waste management license or evidence of exemption for that facility.

Segregate the different types of waste that arise from our works. This will make it easier to supply an accurate description of the waste for waste transfer purposes.

Minimizing the quantity of waste that we produce will save we money on raw materials and disposal costs. Use the link to 'Waste Minimization' in the 'See Also' box for further information.
Label all waste skips - make it clear to everyone which waste type should be disposed of in that skip.

Do not leave materials on site when our work is complete. By leaving materials behind, we may be discarding them. If they are discarded they will be 'waste' and, as the producer of that waste we will be responsible for it.
